Case Study: Me as a writer

Writing experiences for me is a blur. I can not really remember a time that I actually wrote a piece of intellectual writing. The last job I had did not require writing. I did accounting so I dealt with numbers all day. The most writing that I do is in the form of a list, text, facebook, etc.

When I write a text for example I shorten words, I do not put in any punctuation. As for a list it just looks like chicken scratch on a piece of paper. Facebook is a little similar to a text but lately I have become more aware of the writings I do on that site. I see others writings and they actually write the way you are supposed to. They have several paragraphs, punctuation, and capitalization as needed. I am terrible when it comes to capitalization and my writings are always one long paragraph. I never separate each topic.

When it comes to school writings I always do them by the book so to speak. I follow all guidelines, use punctuation, etc. I guess I take more pride in these writings because I know I am being graded on them. I am now realizing that I need to take pride in all my writings because it is a reflection of me and the type of person I am.

I am really anxious to start more writings in this class so that I may see how I progress. As I’ve mentioned earlier my writings from the past are a blur, so I want to see how this class has shaped me into a writer. I’ve never thought of myself as a writer and I hope this class helps me write to my potential.

  1. Colleen, Well this blog post certainly looks like the work of a writer with a capital W. You are a thoughtful student; this characteristic is going to serve you well in this class, specifically your case study blogs, as you reflect on the individual choices you make.
