An Illinois law has been passed that allows a hand gun to be carried in the console of a car. This came about from a case that had gone to Supreme Court, because of a man who was arrested for having his gun in the console of his car. He fought it stating that the console could be considered a case. There are stipulations to the law, you obviously have to have your FOID card and the gun can not be loaded.
I agree with being able to have a gun in the console, with all of the crime now and days having a gun close by for protection is nice. The State’s Attorney disagreed with this because he says now Police Officers have to worry about gun’s being at the fingertips of anyone they pull over. This does scare me a little being my Husband is a Police Officer but whether or not a law states you can have a gun in the console or not people will still have them where ever they please.
Crime needs to be stopped and I do not believe taking guns away from people is going to help. The “bad” people will have guns irregardless and then the “good” people are left unable to defend themselves.

I think that you should be able to have a gun in your console. It should have to be unloaded though. Crime is bad but nine times out of ten if you pull a gun on someone that is robbing you or something, they are going to think twice. Not like they're going to say, "hey, is that thing loaded?" Very nice blog.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. For safety purposes, it is a good thing to have. More than likely, you won't need to use it but if you would be in a predicament, it is something that may come in handy, even if it is unloaded. I think that taking guns away from people will never help a situation because if they want it bad enough, they will find a way to have it. Why shouldn't we be able to protect ourselves?
ReplyDeleteI really liked your blog :)
Colleen, My opinion varies from yours, but that's probably because we've had different life experiences to support our opinions.
ReplyDeleteWell supported with personal examples.
It's a pity I can't type how far my jaw just dropped. I see where you're coming from, but I don't think this is a law that ever needed to be created. There are more pressing issues, and generally, I feel that unless you're a cop, you really shouldn't have any guns on you in the exception of hunting rifles and the occasional Red Rider. I understand that bad people will always have the guns and we do need protection, but adding another gun into the equation just escalates the situation further. Think about it, if someone comes up to your car with a gun, don't you think that they would most likely blow you away faster if they saw you reach for something? I doubt they're going to think twice if they've already had the nerve to approach you with a gun. And chances are, their's is loaded. I don't think that there should be searches at every stop light to see if you have a gun, but I don't think this should've been passed. Now more people will start considering guns, and I think that if given any random opportunity to use them, you've just got a higher chance that they'll choose to use them in the wrong situation. Noone buys a gun to just hold it in their car.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. People should have the right to protect them selfs. I do believe that they should expand that law and allow people to carry a concealed weapon, You know that every single "bad person" is. But with that i think that the process of getting a permit or even buy a gun should changed making it harder to get a hold of a gun.
ReplyDeleteI was gonna comment on this but i have to much to say about it so I'm just gonna blogg about it myself. For an enjoyable time plz read
